Music @ kuvuka

Many of you will be aware that a lot has been going on here at Kuvuka, we’ve been lucky enough to have had some great performances by talented musicians. The Master Kora player Moussa Kouyate has played several times, which has been a real treat. In addition to this we’ve had great music from Jack, and from Sarah (which I unfortunately missed, but am told was really brilliant, so please come back!)
Given the talent that is evidently available to us I’d like to make the most of this, and will try to bring you some live music each Saturday afternoon. This saturday Jack Cleverly will be playing from 12, he’s very good! Come along!

childsoldiers donation

Kuvuka has now been open for 3 months, and is able to make its first charitable donation. The idea is that 10% of all Kuvuka profit goes to charities I have some involvement with. This time Kuvuka will be sponsoring the education of an ex-child soldier in Northern Uganda. I am really excited about being able to make a real difference in the life of someone who has effectively had their childhood stollen, and giving them new opportunities and a new life. If you want to find out more about the war in Uganda in which children were regularly abducted and forced to fight and kill, you can look at a website I put together, which is frankly outdated now, the war is all but over, but gives an idea of what these people have been through. www.stolenchildren.co.uk .

I would like to thank all of Kuvuka’s customers, for making this sponsorship possible, hopefully this is just a start with great things to come.

If you would like to read more about the charity, or sponsor directly, visit www.childsoldiers.net

The Great Kuvuka Free Coffee Give-away!

On Friday, and possibly Monday Kuvuka will be giving away take-away coffees to people on their way to work, between 8-9am. No strings attahed, the idea is to get people out of their habit of walking past the cafe and on into work and into the habit of stopping to pick up a coffee.

Venue Magazine

There should be a column on myself and the cafe in this weeks edition of Venue magazine. If you have last weeks edition you’ll see a brief description on page 27, in typical journalistic style there are numerous errors in what’s a tiny paragraph, but hey, it’s a mention!
